The Institute of Thermal Engineering belongs to the Institute of Technology of Canton of Vaud and has been active since 1999 in the development, testing and industrialization of advanced concept for energy conversion, storage and transport.
Prof. Michel is a combustion expert and researcher in the field of advanced combustion control systems, biomass and wastes, and energy conversion systems.

His professional experience includes:

  • International Flame Research Foundation - 4.5 years as an investigator, managing research projects and combustion trials on 2-5 MW experimental furnaces.

  • Battelle Geneva Research Center - 4.5 years as a research project manager in the field of mechanical and thermal engineering.

  • Digital Equipment Corporation - 5 years as a coordinator, project manager and educational program manager related to change management programs.

  • Swiss Center for Electronics and Microtechnology - 14 years as a senior project manager, where he initiated a new field of activity in intelligent thermal systems.

  • University of Applied Sciences of Western Switzerland, Geneva Institute of Technology - 4 years. Teaching heat transfer, fluid mechanics and project management. Setting-up and managing applied research projects in the fields of renewable urban energy systems: biomass combustion, anaerobic digestion of organic wastes, combined heat and power production, building energy management systems.

  • He is a founder of the Swiss Association of Project Managers, member of the International Flame Research Foundation and partner of the Econet Swiss network.
